We're a little over two months away from The Little Mermaid splashing down into theaters, and we still haven't seen a full trailer! When that does arrive, we're guessing it will pull back the curtain on Disney's latest live-action reimagining in a big way, but in the meantime, we have some new toys to take a look at.
A Mattel doll was recently listed on Amazon Italy and really shows off Halle Bailey's Ariel. The red hair has been a real point of contention for some fans, but it's hard to look at this and think the actress and singer looks anything other than perfect.
Even more interesting, however, are some upcoming Funko Pop figures.
Those feature Ariel in her "human" form, Prince Eric, King Triton, and the villainous Ursula. The collectables are obviously very stylised, but we can't wait to see these colourful designs in live-action.
Another Pop shows the mermaid Ariel surrounded by her friends, including Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle. They've all been overhauled for their live-action debuts, but that makes sense; after all, it would look ridiculous for the title character's aquatic friends to all look like cartoons come to life!
In the movie, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart.
She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Helmed by visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall, the movie opens exclusively in theaters on May 26, 2023.
