A live-action The Little Mermaid film is in the works, but fans don't have to wait until the Halle Bailey-led film hits theaters to see a new take on the iconic character, as ABC gets set to air a live musical event based on the animated movie.
The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live!, which is set to premiere on November 5, is being billed as a "special tribute to the original animated classic and its timeless music." Of course, if you're a fan of the stage version, then you will be pleased to know that the live event will also feature a few songs from the Broadway production.
While the full cast list hasn't been released, the network did reveal who would be playing some of the more notable characters. According to the announcement, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) has scored the lead role of Ariel, while Queen Latifah is portray Ursula. Finally, Grammy-winning artist Shaggy has been tapped to voice Sebastian.
The Little Mermaid Live! will be directed by Hamish Hamilton, who is also set to produce the project alongside Katy Mullan, David Jammy, Raj Kapoor, Ian Stewart and Richard Kraft
