Trailers for The Little Mermaid have previewed a few snippets of the classic songs we can expect to hear in next month's live-action reboot, but for many fans, those sneak peeks haven't been enough.
Now, though, we have Halle Bailey's full rendition of "Part of Your World" from the movie and we're not kidding when we say this is chill-inducing. The composers behind the 1989 animated classic, Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, returned to work on this fresh take on the story alongside Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, ensuring the remake boasts that same classic sound.
As in the original, we hear Ariel sing about her desire to be part of the surface world, and Bailey sounds absolutely terrific. The singer and actress has a powerful voice which is on full display with her rendition of the iconic tune.
There are lots of other classic songs we haven't heard yet, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Poor Unfortunate Souls." For now, you can listen to The Little Mermaid's version of "Part of Your World" in the player below.
In The Little Mermaid, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart.
She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Helmed by filmmaker Rob Marshall, the movie opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
