THE LITTLE MERMAID: Ariel Voice-Actor Jodi Benson Is Confident In The Upcoming, Live-Action Remake
Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in the original The Little Mermaid animated film, recently made clear her optimism regarding the currently in-development, live-action remake.
Disney is currently developing a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) is attached as director, while Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana and Mary Poppins Returns) and Alan Menken helm the musical department - the latter wrote the iconic songs of the original The Little Mermaid animated film.
Though Disney's ever-growing catalogue of live-action remakes has proven to be a controversial topic; Jodi Benson, the voice behind the titular character of Ariel in the original animated movie, recently spoke with Comicbook.com wherein she made clear her enthusiasm for the remake.
"I think it's going to be incredible. They are talking about this concept, and the team of people that I've heard mentioned for this particular live-action film sounds quite magical."
And I think for Alan [Menken] to be teaming up with Lin-Manuel is going to be phenomenal, and if in fact we have Robbie Marshall, if that is the case, as director and John DeLuca as executive producer. Mary Poppins Returns, I think, was just a fantastic film, so I know that Robbie is an incredible director with a great eye. I think he can handle it. I think it can be delivered in a way that's going to be quite special. I don't know exactly how they'll pull it all off, but I'm sure it'll be amazing.
Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid doesn't currently have a set release date.
