The Lion King released back in 1994 and it, as well as its songs, instantly became iconic. Disney set a difficult task for themselves by announcing that they'd be remaking the classic animated film with photo-realistic visuals and an all-new cast. The film recently had its star-studded premiere and it will be arriving in theatres on July 19th.
Ahead of this, Disney has released the remake's entire soundtrack online. You can now listen to the new renditions of such iconic songs as "Hakuna Matata," "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," and "Be Prepared." That last one, we weren't sure would even feature in the remake - thankfully, we've not got confirmation that it will.
You can head over to the
DisneyMusicVEVO YouTube channel to have a full selection of the soundtrack. Below you can see the four that were mentioned above and make up for yourself whether they live up to the original versions.
Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King is set to arrive in theaters on July 19th, 2019.
