The official premiere of Disney's remake of
The Lion King is taking place right now. The film itself will be releasing in theatres in just a week's time. To commemorate the upcoming release, Disney (
@disneylionking) have released a new promotional photo which features (almost) the entire cast of the film.
With them all clad in black and meticulously arranged, it looks like some amalgamation of a funeral and class photo. Both Beyoncé and Donald Glover feature in the centre of the image and are surrounded by the rest of the cast. Those two popular actors play Nala and Simba respectively, however, the young versions of those characters will be played by Shahadi Wright Joseph and JD McCrary.
James Earl Jones will be reprising the role of Mufasa, however, he's noticeably absent from the cast photo. Sarabi, Simba's mother, will be played by Alfre Woodard and Zazu will be played by John Oliver. Seth Rogen plays Pumbaa and Billy Eichner plays Timon. Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key, and Eric André will be playing the hyena trio of Shenzi, Kamari, and Azizi respectively. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Scar.
Check out the cast photo below:
Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King is set to arrive in theaters on July 19th, 2019.
