Following a brief teaser, Sony Pictures has released a full trailer for its upcoming animated Garfield movie (appropriately titled The Garfield Movie), and it gives us a better idea of what to expect from the lazy, lasagne-loving tabby-cat's latest big-screen adventure.
The trailer introduces Garfield (Chris Pratt) as a kitten, who winds up in the care of Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult) after seemingly being abandoned by his father (Samuel L. Jackson). The little moggie soon develops a taste for Italian food (among many other things), and enjoys the good life alongside his canine pal Odie (Gregg Berger).
Garfield's pampered existence is disrupted by the return of his dad, Vic, who enlists his son and Odie for a perilous heist.
This looks like it might be decent fun (it's clearly aimed at younger kids), but we're not sure Pratt was the best choice to provide the voice of this particular character. The Guardians of the Galaxy star ended up working out okay for Mario, but surely Garfield should sound a lot more like, say, Bill Murray?
Yes, the legendary Ghostbusters actor already voiced the cat in the previous live-action (the animals were CGI) Garfield movies, but as negatively-received as those features were, Murray was a perfectly cast.
At any rate, check out the trailer below along with some new posters and let us know what you think.
