Hugh Lofting's series of Doctor Dolittle books have been adapted for the big screen several times, including a film from 1967 which saw Rex Harrison take up the title role and two Eddie Murphy-led movies. Now, however, Avengers: Endgame star Robert Downey Jr. will be stepping into the doctor's shoes for a new adventure set to arrive early next year.

And to celebrate the film's arrival in three months, Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for Dolittle. The live-action feature, which was previously titled The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, is based loosely upon the book The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle and will see the titular character set sail to find a cure for the ill queen.

Of course, the famed veterinarian won't embark on the journey alone, as he will be joined by a variety of exotic animals. But as the trailer below suggests, the character's ability to speak with animals won't always be able to keep him out of danger on this wonderous adventure.

Dolittle also stars Harry Collett, Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Jessie Buckley, Kasia Smutniak, John Cena, and Marion Cotillard and is officially set to hit theater on January 17, 2020.
