DreamWorks has tapped some big players as of late for their upcoming feature film adaptation of The Bad Guys. What was once a book franchise by Aaron Blabey will be turned into the crux of the film with a release date for sometime next year.
The film will star the likes of Sam Rockwell, who played the role of the abnoxious, drug-dependent neighbor, Vic, from F is for Family, Awkwafina, who played the deuteragonist in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon, Joker alum, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson of Hot Tub Time Machine fame, too. On top of those star-studded actors, Anthony Ramos from Hamilton will be there as will Paddington 2's Richard Ayoade, a fellow Joker actor, Zazie Beetz, famed YouTube creator, Lilly Singh, and Emmy winner, Alex Borstein.
The New York Times best-selling book series introduces us to Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula, a ragtag group of criminals with their eyes on the prize. In this case, the prize is becoming a model citizen. Clearly, going from criminal hijinks, pulling off some of the dasteredly heists known to creature-kind to then turn around and go good won't be easy.
The Bad Guys tapped Pierre Perifel who's only ever directed small-time projects, making this comedy his feature directorial debut. Meanwhile, Nacho Libre co-producer and frequent animation department exec, Damon Ross, takes on the role of producer alongside Rebecca Huntley. Blabey is working as the executive producer alongside Etan Cohen, and Patrick Hughes.
Initially revealed back in 2018 with production beginning the following year, the film is supposedly slated to release September 17, 2021.
