With an estimated production budget of only $40M USD, and an opening domestic weekend of $30.3M ($35M if you include Monday's Columbus Day) it's easy to see why MGM has already greenlit plans for an
Addams Family sequel. The film doesn't open in most international territories until October 24 but it looks as if the domestic numbers alone will guarantee that the film turns a profit for the studio.
The film came in 2nd place, after WB's
Joker, surprisingly beating the Will Smith-led
Gemini Man, which tanked, despite favorable reviews.
In its second weekend of release, and facing family-box office competiton from Disney's
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,
The Addams Family is estimated to earn another $15M in North America.
