TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM Looking At Impressive $40 Million Debut

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is now in theaters worldwide, and Paramount's decision to release the movie midweek to get a jump on this weekend's completion appears to have paid off.

After the Seth Rogen-produced animated reboot took in a not-too-shabby $3.85 million from Tuesday preview screenings, the Heroes in a Half-Shell's latest big-screen adventure looks set to make between $35M and $40M over the course of its five-day domestic debut.

This may not sound particularly impressive, but when you factor in the movie's relatively thrifty budget of $70 million (before marketing costs, granted), Mutant Mayhem is off to a pretty good start.

Plus, positive reviews (it's currently sitting at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes) and word-of-mouth could well propel the film past projections.

If you'd like to find out what I made of TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, you can check out the new episode of the Roll Credits podcast below.

“After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.”

Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon will voice the roles of Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael, respectively. The cast also includes Jackie Chan as Splinter, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.

Jeff Rowe (The Mitchells vs. the Machines) directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
