Earlier this year, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa provided an update on their upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie — that was announced back in 2018 as a collaboration with Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Minions). It's said that production is commencing smoothly and they're expecting a 2022 release — find out more here.

On the topic of a Super Mario Bros. movie; The Hollywood Reporter recently made public the results of their recent, widespread poll which asked readers what video game and/or video game series they would be most interested to see make the jump onto the big screen.

Nintendo and Illumination are probably particularly enthusiastic about the results as; Super Mario Bros. topped the list. Not only that but subsidiary Super Mario Bros. series such as Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros. were also present among the results.

Other video games that the general public would like to see adapted into movies are Pac-Man (which came in second place), Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, The Legend of Zelda, and more. You can check out the full list for yourself below (via Gamefragger):
