Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim, but prior to that, fans had seriously tempered their expectations.
After all, a Spider-Man movie without Marvel Studios' involvement seemed like a guaranteed disaster on Sony Pictures' part. Instead, we got an eye-popping adventure widely considered one of the greatest superhero movies ever made; it's also frequently ranked as the best Spider-Man movie.
Someone who agrees with that latter point is the MCU's web-slinger, Tom Holland.
The actor, who has played Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and his own Spider-Man trilogy, revealed in a recent interview that he too considers Into the Spider-Verse the web-slinger's best big screen outing.
"I think the first ‘Spider-Verse’ movie is the best Spider-Man movie that’s ever been made," Holland says in the video below. "I’m so proud of everyone involved. [Producer] Amy Pascal is like my mom. I was supposed to go with her [to the premiere] as her date, I couldn’t go because I’m here working."
"But I’m incredibly proud of them, I’m excited for the second one," he continues. "I’m sure it will live up to every expectation, and I can’t wait to see it."
It's unclear whether Holland will ever share the screen with this animated Miles Morales, but he has said on numerous occasions he'd like to eventually pass the mantle to an actor playing that version of Spider-Man. Chances are we'll see that happen in his next MCU trilogy.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.
