The first official trailer for the long-awaited Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel dropped earlier today. Gwen Stacy drops into Miles Morales' life once again to invite him on an adventure into the 'spider-verse,' or perhaps it would be apt to say 'across' it.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson but written by David Callaham as well as Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Callaham is recently best known for partially writing Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Lord and Miller are the renowned directors, writers and producers of such films as 21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, and the first Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film.
It's Miller who, following the debut of the trailer, confirmed (via @chrizmillr) that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be the first part of a two part film duology. While this was suggested by the "Part One" in the film's title, there was nothing to say how many instalments that would be and many took that as pertaining to the trailer itself. According to Miller, he and the other writers and directors are hard at work on both films at once.
Evidently, their aspirations for the sequel to the Academy Award-winning animated film are too ambitious for just one film. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is set to hit theatres on October 7th, 2022. At the moment there's no telling when the follow-up will debut, though, since they're working on both simultaneously, we can only assume the instalments wont be too far apart. Perhaps only a year, similar to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is coming exclusively to movie theaters on October 7, 2022.
