The review embargo lifted for Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earlier today (you can check out our verdict here), and, not too surprisingly after those glowing social media reactions, critics are full of praise for the animated sequel.
With 34 reviews counted, the Into the Spider-Verse follow-up is currently sitting at a spectacular 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which means that, so far, only a single negative write-up has been added.
The "rotten" review comes from Movie Nation's Roger Moore (not that one), who called the movie, "A mad cinematic jumble of comic book imagery, comic book mimicry, multiverse plotting and ponderous, pandering fan service."
We can't see many other critics agreeing with this take, but it's early days, so that score may well fluctuate. For now, you can read through the reviews at the link below.
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
The confirmed voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.
