In 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released to widespread critical acclaim. The movie exceeded everyone's expectations, and we can surely all agree that its eventual Oscar win was very well-deserved.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been a long time coming, but it's finally rolling out into theaters across the globe. Now, we've compiled a handy guide to everything you need to know about the movie...without any pesky spoilers, of course!

This sequel is something special, and we're delving into its critical response, whether you need to wait around once the credits roll, and even when you can expect the Marvel movie to hit streaming platforms.

5. There Are No Post-Credits Scenes

This is undeniably surprising for a Marvel movie, but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reportedly has no post-credits scenes.

We've all grown accustomed to waiting for something a little extra once the movie ends, but the nature of this sequel's ending means there's no room for any sort of additional tease, comedic or otherwise. That will make sense once you've watched it; we're not getting into spoilers here, though!

So, yes, you're free to leave once the action ends, though all those people who spent years working on the blockbuster will probably appreciate you sticking around to see their names!

4. It's Already A Critical Hit

We're well aware some of you value Rotten Tomatoes scores more than others, but there's no denying that they mean an awful lot to plenty of moviegoers. Heck, these percentages can make or break a new release's opening weekend!

As of now, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has a spectacular 95% on Rotten Tomatoes (for those wondering, Into the Spider-Verse has 97%).

The Critics Consensus, meanwhile, reads, "Just as visually dazzling and action-packed as its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse thrills from start to cliffhanger conclusion."

3. It's A "Part One" Movie

As the consensus above makes clear, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse wraps up on an open-ended note.

Why? Well, because we have less than a year to wait before Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on March 29, 2024. The conclusion to this trilogy, the expectation is that it will end the animated Miles Morales' story prior to a live-action (possibly MCU) debut.

A great number of critics have compared Across the Spider-Verse to The Empire Strikes Back, so take that as you will! Thankfully, the sequel still sounds like a satisfying experience in its own right.

2. Into The Multiverse Spider-Verse

Again, we're not getting into spoilers here but you should prepare yourselves to take a deep dive into the Spider-Verse in this movie. Literally hundreds of named characters will appear, so you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for some big surprises.

That's going to include live-action cameos and major Easter Eggs which will give Spider-Man fans plenty to sink their teeth into.

As for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's premise, the trailers have indicated that Miles Morales becomes a target of Spider-Man 2099's Spider Society when The Spot is unleashed and the teenager is faced with saving his dad or the entire Multiverse.

1. It Won't Be Available On Streaming For A While

These days, moviegoers are more eager than ever before to discover when a new title will be available on Digital and streaming platforms.

In the case of this movie, you'll have to be patient. Even at the height of the pandemic, Sony Pictures never gave in to the pressure and refused to head down the streaming route with its blockbuster releases. Based on other recent releases, expect to wait at least a few months before you can watch this title at home.

Sony also has an exclusive detail with Netflix, and we don't expect Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to debut there until the end of 2023. Unfortunately, that agreement also means the sequel won't hit Disney+ until 2025 at the soonest.
