After initially being slated for release on August 6, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, which will reportedly be the fourth and final installment in the surprising Sony Pictures Animation franchise will now be released on October 1. The new October release date comes after the film was previously moved up from August to July before being pushed back to Halloween season.

A large portion of the film was created and recorded remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus is also the likely culprit behind a number of notable absences. Genndy Tartakovsky is not directing the fourth installment after previously helming the three previous films. Also absent are Adam Sandler (the voice of Dracula) and Kevin James (the voice of Frankenstein).

Replacing Tartakosy as director is the duo of Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon. Tartakosky did write the screenplay, alongside Amos Vernon, Nunzio Randazzo. Voice impressionist and YouTube sensation Brian Hull is replacing Sandler as Drac, while Brad Abrell (who voices Bubble Buddy on SpongeBob SquarePants) replaces James as Frank.

The remaining voice cast from 2018's Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation are all reprising their roles including:

  • Andy Samberg as Jonathan "Johnny" Loughran
  • Selena Gomez as Mavis
  • Asher Blinkoff as Dennis Loughran
  • Kathryn Hahn as Ericka Van Helsing
  • Steve Buscemi as Wayne the werewolf
  • Molly Shannon as Wanda the werewolf
  • David Spade as Griffin the Invisible Man
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Murray the Mummy
  • Fran Drescher as Eunice-Frankenstein's Bride
  • Jim Gaffigan as Professor Abraham Van Helsing

When Van Helsing's mysterious invention, the "Monsterfication Ray", goes haywire, Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and Johnny becomes a monster! In their new mismatched bodies, Drac, stripped of his powers, and an exuberant Johnny, loving life as a monster, must team up and race across the globe to find a cure before it's too late, and before they drive each other crazy. With help from Mavis and the hilariously human Drac Pack, the heat is on to find a way to switch themselves back before their transformations become permanent.
