After an unusual production in which the titular character was entirely redesigned and reanimated; Sonic the Hedgehog finally arrived in theatres just over two months ago. Since then, the movie went on to become the highest-grossing video game movie of all time after surpassing the domestic earnings of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
How Sonic the Hedgehog compares to Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is brought up quite a bit in the newest Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies. If you're unfamiliar with the Emmy award-nominated comedy video series, an Honest Trailer is a parody of a traditional movie trailer only they're frank and, well, honest. Featuring the epic voice of Jon Bailey.
For instance, this latest entry begins as such: "In a world where the only thing worse than a movie tie-in video game is a video game tie-in movie, Sega studios will crack the game movie code by making it star a quick furry animal, making them a cop or partnering them up with one, and okay, I’ll say it—making a faster, bluer version of Detective Pikachu."
They're sure to take the mick out of the cast and the aforementioned, unusual production as well as the constant and overt product placement. Despite all that, though, it seems that they're in favour of the video game movie. You can check out the Honest Trailer for yourself below (via Screen Junkies):
