Sonic the Hedgehog will race into theatres in just over a month's time. The upcoming, live-action movie is based on the popular video game series of the same name and stars Ben Schwartz as the titular character. Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik and the cast also include James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. Jeff Fowler directs.

Paramount Spain recently hinted at the introduction of a brand new character to the franchise's canon. It seems that throughout Sonic the Hedgehog's formative years, the speedster was accompanied by an owl by the name of Longclaw. Tails' Channel was apparently able to confirm these rumours and reports.

This is the first we're hearing of other anthropomorphic characters featuring in the live-action film than just Sonic the Hedgehog. Though there hasn't been any mention of them thus far, perhaps there's still hope that the film will feature the likes of Amy, Knuckles, and Tails. Below you can check out the relevant tweets (via Gamefragger):

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
