It's been a while since we've heard anything about Disney's live-action Snow White, though we do know that shooting on Marc Webb's (The Amazing Spider-Man) movie wrapped last summer.
The filmmaker's take on the classic 1937 animated movie will star Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, two actresses who most recently shared the screen in Shazam! Fury of the Gods as Anthea and Wonder Woman.
Zegler's star is very much on the rise, with her standout performance in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story setting the stage for roles in not only the Shazam! sequel, but The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as well. In a recent interview with NME, however, she admitted that Snow White was far more intimidating than any of those projects.
"I was terrified, terrified, terrified, terrified," Zegler admits, "because you’re playing the first one. The blueprint of all Disney Princesses comes from 1937’s Snow White."
"You have so many conversations leading up to it. You’re gonna chop off all your hair and learn how to dance with all these fake animals and things that are not there," the actress adds. "It was a lot of pressure."
We have no doubt the actress will knock the role out of the park, but she's not wrong that there's a lot of pressure surrounding one of Disney's most iconic Princesses.
As for whether she has a future in the new DCU beyond Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Zegler is just hoping that co-star Zachary Levi's threequel pitch one day becomes a reality. "I think it’d be cool to do this zombie plot that Zach is obsessed with. It’s Evil Dead meets Superman meets Big, which doesn’t sound like it should work, but I think it might."
Snow White is set to be released in theaters on March 22, 2024.
