This new film is set about two months following the adventure of the first film, and it sets the stage for a sad reality for the title character: his life of adventure has come at a cost, most notably in the form that he has previously lost seven of his nine lives, with the eighth being taken through events that occur in this film (and which are shown in the trailer). This leaves him pondering what he is going to do with his final life — until he becomes aware of a mystical "Last Wish" that will return his lives back to nine. Of course, this in itself will require a dangerous adventure, but for Puss it's worth it.
The cast features Antonioo Banderas returning in the title role. He's joined by Salma Hayek as love interest Kitty Softpaws, Harvey Guillen as Perro, John Mulraney as "Big" Jack Horner, Florence Pugh (who has delighted audiences as Yelena Belova in the movie Black Widow and the Disney+ series Hawkeye) and Wagner Moura as Big Bad Wolf. The film is directed by Joel Crawford with a script by Michael Golamco, Jennifer Kluska, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Coming from Dreamworks Animation and Universal Pictures, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish will be released September 23, 2022.
