Legendary Comics announced today at Emerald City Comic Con a graphic novel tie-in for the upcoming
Pokemon movie,
Detective Pikachu.
Written by Brian Buccellato with art by Nelson Dániel, POKEMON Detective Pikachu is inspired by the upcoming film due out in May. The graphic novel will follow the adventures of Tim Goodman (played by Justice Smith in the movie) through Ryme City in search of his missing father.
The synopsis teases:
With twists and turns around every corner, nothing is more twist-y than Tim’s unexpected partner: a Pikachu with a penchant for coffee and danger, and the amazing ability to speak human language. In a city where humans and Pokémon live together in harmony, unexpected dangers surround them as they try to solve a mystery.
While the graphic novel is inspired by the movie, it is ultimately based on the wildly popular Pokemon brand.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to work with The Pokémon Company International,” said Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics.
“Pokémon is a globally-adored brand, and we absolutely loved expanding the story of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu onto the page with the help of Brian’s words and Nelson’s art.”
“Legendary Comics has done an outstanding job of bringing the world of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu to life in the form of this graphic novel,” added Heather Dalgleish, Director of Publishing at The Pokémon Company International.
“We’re excited to be working with the Legendary Comics team on this initiative and can’t wait for readers to dive in to this Pokémon story.”
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
Legendary Comics' Pokemon Detective Pikachu hits shelves this summer, following the film's May release.
