PBS and Apple are teaming up to bring Peanuts fans some holiday joy. “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” -- two Peanuts holiday classics -- will now air on PBS and PBS KIDS, the network announced.
The special, ad-free broadcast of “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” will air on November 22, 2020 at 7:30 pm local time/6:30 pm CT, while "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will air on December 13, 2020 at 7:30 pm local time/6:30 pm CT. The PBS broadcast will complement their release on Apple TV+ this holiday season.
The Thanksgiving Peanuts special will begin streaming on Apple TV+ starting November 18. The special will be available for free from November 25 through November 27. The Peanuts gang will unite on Apple TV+ again for the holidays with the premiere of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on December 4. Again, this special will be available to watch for free from December 11 through December 13.
The partnership between PBS and Apple comes after national outrage following an announcement that the trifecta of holiday specials would be headed to Apple TV+ this year. While it's too late for "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," fans can rejoice to know that the other two holiday classics will be free to watch this year.
Apple became the home of all things Peanuts earlier this year thanks to an expanded partnership between Apple and WildBrain, along with Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film. In addition to the three holiday classics, Apple TV+ is home to new animated Peanuts originals, including the Daytime Emmy-nominated Snoopy in Space.
While the Peanuts holiday specials were always intended to be available for free on Apple TV+ for a limited time, the fact of the matter is not everyone has access to the service. The deal with PBS ensures all households can enjoy the timeless classic.
