It has been quite a while since the latest live-action Transformers movie. Bumblebee arrived in theatres all the way back in December 2018. It seems that fans of the alien robots will have to wait quite a bit longer for the next entry in the series.
Paramount Pictures reportedly has an "untitled Transformers movie" listed for a wide release on July 24th, 2022. This comes way of The Hollywood Reporter. It's said that the next Transformers movie will receive a wide release when it arrives in over two years' time.
Paramount Pictures is apparently developing at least two live-action Transformers movies, one written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and the other by Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). This is all irrespective of the Transformers animated movie that Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley is working on — find out more on that here.
It's thought that the Transformers movies that are in the works are an adaptation of the Beast Wars: Transformers spinoff and a sequel to the aforementioned Bumblebee solo movie. The former is a franchise wherein robots transform into animals rather than vehicles. The latter is the most well-received live-action Transformers movie critically, thus far, but wasn't as lucrative as the others.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
