Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy have some fantastic news to share, as they have officially revealed that a sequel to the highly successful Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie has finally been greenlit.
After the success that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie had, it was only a matter of time until it was confirmed. As a matter of fact, there had been rumours about the sequel being in very early stages of development, but we never got official information until today.
According to Paramount Pictures' official announcement, Director Jeff Fowler will be returning to direct the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, but since the movie is still in early stages of development we don't have any official news on returning cast members, or an estimated release window.
It is to be assumed that actors Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey — who play the beloved blue hedgehog and Dr.Robotnik(Eggman), respectively — will also return to play these iconic video game characters, as well as Tika Sumpter and James Marsden in the roles of Maddie and Tom Wachowski; we need confirmation on this, though.
With an ecstatic "ROUND TWO WITH THE BLUE!!" on his personal Twitter account, Director Jeff Fowler shared his enthusiasm with fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie; further confirming that he is, indeed, coming back to direct the sequel.
