We've been waiting a long time for this news, but Sony Pictures has finally confirmed that Paddington in Peru will arrive in theaters on January 17, 2025. However, if you live in the UK, you'll be able to watch the threequel a whopping two months sooner on November 8, 2024.
It's a little hard to believe that it's been six years since Paddington 2 was released, and while this third instalment's story is largely being kept under wraps, we know the movie will follow Paddington and the Brown family as they visit Aunt Lucy in Peru. However, a mystery ends up sending them to the Amazon rainforest and up Peruvian mountains.
Ben Whishaw will return as the voice of Paddington, with Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer (who replaces Sally Hawkins), Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, and Rachel Zegler in live-action roles.
However, as a result of the continuing SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's unclear whether Zegler and Banderas will still appear in the movie.
Paddington in Peru's story comes from Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, with Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont responsible for the screenplay. As previously reported, the movie will also see music videos and commercials director Dougal Wilson make his feature-directing debut.
"As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington," he said earlier this year. "It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focussed on making a third film that honours the love so many people have for this very special bear."
Paddington and Paddington 2 director Paul King added, "After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big screen adventure."
"Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably."
Paddington in Peru will need to do a lot if it hopes to live up to its predecessors, but the movie is certainly shaping up to be a treat for fans of this iconic bear. Hopefully, we'll have more to share soon, but in the meantime, a new teaser has been released which you can check out in the Tweet/X below.
