Fans were buzzing yesterday after an image was posted to Twitter by photojournalist
YVRShoots. The photo was from the set of the upcoming
Sonic the Hedgehog film, and according to some accounts, one of the actors in the picture was Jim Carrey. This was especially interesting news, because we know that Jim Carrey has been cast as Sonic's nemesis, the villainous Dr. Eggman. Check out the picture here:
Obviously, fans were nervous about the photo. Dr. Eggman is a kooky, flaboyant villain, and taht's to say nothing of Jim Carrey. How, then, could this photo be so, as one source put it, "normcore?" Well, worry no more, fanboys. That's not Jim Carrey.
IGN editorial designer
Amanda Flagg posted the clarification yesterday, according to
Nintendo Enthusiast. Flagg clarifies that Jim Carrey's Eggman is nowhere in the photo, nor is Carrey himself. The man on the left is, in fact, character actor Frank C. Turner. YVRShoots also commented on the photo, asserting that they never hinted at Carrey's presence in the photo. Like so many other pieces of breaking film news, this was just a rumor.
While fans are probably relieved by this clarification, it still is disappointing to not get a look at Carrey's Eggman. We'l probably have to wait for a real look until sometime cloaser to Sonic's release date. And that's still a while away. As of now, it's
November 19th, 2019. But hey, better to wait on a good movie than to rush a bad one, right?
What do you think Jim Carrey will bring to the role of Dr. Eggman? Do you think the studio will tone down his wackiness, or stick ot the bizarre, cartoonish characterization with which he's always been portrayed? Let us know in the comments section below. We'll be keeping you updated on everything
