Unless Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy pulls the rug out from under his feet, Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni will take the helm of a Star Wars movie that promises to bring together much of what we've seen on Disney+.
Thus far, little to no details have been revealed about "The New Republic" project. What we do know is characters from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew are all expected to be front and centre in a crossover event widely believed to be a loose adaptation of "Heir to the Empire."
However, if you heard rumblings about a movie based specifically on The Mandalorian over the weekend, then we have good and bad news for you.
One is indeed expected to hit Disney+ this Fall, but it's going to be another LEGO Holiday Special. According to Bespin Bulletin (via SFFGazette.com), it's titled LEGO Star Wars: Mandoween and, in case it wasn't already obvious, it will be a Mando adventure set during the spooky season.
This has not been officially announced by Disney and Lucasfilm, but a poster for the project was reportedly spotted at Comic-Con alongside one for LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red. That too was advertised for a Disney+ debut later in 2023.
Lucasfilm, Disney, and LEGO have been collaborating on these yearly Specials since 2020. The first was the aptly titled LEGO Star Wars: Holiday Special, though it was later followed by LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales and LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation.
Based on when previous efforts were released, the site seems confident Mandoween will drop either on September 29 or October 6.
So, it's not exactly The Mandalorian movie we were hoping for but beyond Filoni's planned crossover, we remain optimistic that Din Djarin and Grogu will take centre stage in their own blockbuster adventure somewhere down the line.
As for that Avengers movie, it'll be fun to see LEGO put the spotlight back on Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In fact, you can see which of those characters will assemble on the poster below (which was spotted on the Comic-Con show floor).
