Resident Evil typically hasn't fared very well in animation (or live-action, for that matter), but 2017's Resident Evil: Vendetta is considered one of the better adaptation among fans of the video games, and a sequel is now on the way.
Sony (via IGN) has announced that a CGI animated follow-up titled Resident Evil: Death Island is coming later this year, and the first teaser trailer is now online.
Directed by Eiichiro Hasumi (Assassination Classroom) from a screenplay by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass), Death Island will feature classic RE characters Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Jill Valentine.
"D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit," reads the official synopsis. "Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head to the island, where a new horror awaits them."

Though no specific release date has been announced, Resident Evil: Death Island will be with us at some point this summer.
On the video game side of things, Capcom is set to debut the Resident Evil 4 remake on March 24, 2023 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.
