A recent report by Variety has revealed that Disney’s upcoming streaming service will be called “Disney Play". CEO Bob Iger explained that the direct-to-consumer streaming service will be the “biggest priority of the company during calendar [year] 2019.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp will mark its final collaboration with competing streaming-service Netflix - and Captain Marvel, which releases in March of next year, will be the first Marvel Studios production exclusive to Disney Play. Though Disney will not be taking any of its content from existing streaming video on demand and international licensing deals because such a move would be “logistically difficult and extremely costly.”

Though that isn't all the service has to offer as 2019 will see the debut of Toy Story 4Frozen 2, and live-action remakes of animated classics The Lion King, Dumbo, and Aladdin. Those titles will be releasing in theatres and then be available on Disney Play, however they do have a couple of titles that will be exclusive to the streaming service - such as: Lady and the Tramp and director Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars series.

Some of Disney’s biggest IPs will be making a resurgence in the form of a TV series related to Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. as well as High School Musical - and no doubt many more. Behemoth brands like Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars will have all of their content featured on the service as well as many IPs which Disney recently acquired from 20th Century Fox.

What do you think of these new details? Will you be subscribing to Disney Play? What do you think of the name?
