It looks as if the 2020 direct-to-video, adult animated feature film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge was a hit for WB Animation as a sequel has been announced, titled Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. Thanks to the franchise's co-creator, Ed Boone, we now know that the film will drop on August 31.

Boone also shared the box art for the pic, which sees Liu Kang take center stage, surrounded by Sub-Zero and Raiden. Naturally, Scorpion took center stage on the box art for the previous film so perhaps this is an indication that this time around, the story fill focus on the aforementioned trio.

The voice cast for the pic includes the returning:

  • Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade
  • Joel McHale as Johnny Cage
  • Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs
  • Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang
  •  Patrick Seitz as Scorpion
  •  Artt Butler as Shang Tsung & Cyrax
  •  Dave B. Mitchell as Raiden, Kintaro & Sektor
  • Grey Griffin as Kitana, Satoshi Hasashi & Mileena
  • Fred Tatasciore as Shao Kahn

New additions for the sequel include:

  • Matthew Mercer as Stryker & Smoke
  • Bayardo De Murguia as the new Sub-Zero (the original's brother)
  • Matt Yang King as Kung Lao
  • Paul Nakauchi as Lin Kuei Grandmaster
  • Emily O’Brien as Jade
  • Debra Wilson as D’Vorah

When previously speaking about a potential sequel to Scorpion's Revenge, returning screenwriter Jeremy Adams described it as, "Bigger... my hope is that this gets a theatrical release at some point. I hope someday maybe they do like a Fathom event or something, just to get fans to go to the theater because I think it'd be a really fun audience participation thing."
