Next month, moviegoers will return to Cherry Tree Lane in Walt Disney Studios'
Mary Poppins Returns. Ahead of the film's release, we have a brand new featurette that takes us behind the scenes of this highly anticipated sequel.
Hear from the cast and crew as they reveal how they managed to capture the same sense of wonder and excitement as the original 1964 film that starred Julie Andrew as the magical nanny Mary Poppins. Like the original,
Mary Poppins Returns will mix live-action and animation and feature original musical sequences in a brand new original story.
"Mary Poppins was what opened my mind up and the world up to movies and magic and music," reveals director Rob Marshall.
"So doing a sequel to Mary Poppins, the first thing you think is, 'Gulp,' but then you realize that there were eight books altogether. There was a real sense that there was so much more story to be told."
Marshall goes on to praise the film's star, Emily Blunt, who will step into the very big shoes of Mary Poppins.
"It was pretty clear there was no one else that could play this role as brilliantly as Emily Blunt," adds Marshall.
Elsewhere in the video, you'll hear from stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Jack the lamplighter), and Meryl Streep (Topsy), as they talk about the music, dancing, and overall spectacle we'll experience when
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters.
In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
Mary Poppins Returns flies into theaters on December 19.
