Disney put a new spin on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, with a focus put on the "evil" witch in 2014's Maleficent. The film went on to become Angelina Jolie's highest grossing film to date, taking home $785.5 million from the worldwide box office.
A sequel to the film was officially announced in June 2015 but cameras didn't begin rolling until May of this year. The sequel will feature Jolie reprising the titular character and she'll be joined by a returning Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora, and Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, and Lesley Manville as a contemporary reimagining of the fairy godmothers.
Newcomers to the cast include Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith and Ed SKrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor in undisclosed roles.
The sequel will hit theaters on May 29, 2020. That far out, there's not much competition surrounding the date other than King Kong vs Godzilla (May 22, 2020) but that's sure to change.
