Just one week ago,
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu released into theatres. Its domestic opening brought in $54 million at the box office and $175 million worldwide. If not for Avengers: Endgame releasing near the live-action
Pokémon, it would've most likely raked in even more.
With the highly anticipated
Pokémon film living up to the hype, it should come as no surprise that Legendary Entertainment are already working on a direct sequel. That is, according to
Comicbook.com's recent report.
Months before
Detective Pikachu even released, there were rumours of a direct sequel being planned and even spinoffs (one even focusing on Mewtwo). According to the site's report, multiple sources related to the production of Detective Pikachu corroborate that Legendary are developing
Detective Pikachu 2.
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
Detective Pikachu is set to arrive in theatres on May 10th, 2019.
