LeBron James may not be in the NBA Finals this year, but the early playoff exit now gives him time to gear up for another big game this summer. And I'm not talking about the Summer Olympics in Tokyo either.
This July, LeBron James and the Tune Squad will have just one shot to win the highest stakes game of basketball when Space Jam: A New Legacy hits theaters. The latest trailer puts a ton of emphasis on the upcoming game which must not only be won for LeBron James and his son, Dom, to return to Earth, but also to prevent the Looney Tunes from being deleted from the Warner Bros. Serververse.
We get a brief look at some of the tricks the Looney Tunes will have to pull out of their bag to defeat this powered-up roster of digitized basketball stars. Will the Tune Squad prevail?
Welcome to the Jam! Basketball champion and global icon LeBron James goes on an epic adventure alongside timeless Tune Bugs Bunny with the animated/live-action event “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” from director Malcolm D. Lee and an innovative filmmaking team including Ryan Coogler and Maverick Carter. This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.
Space Jam: A New Legacy, of course, stars LeBron James front-and-center in a role that was formerly played by another basketball legend, Michael Jordan. Starring alongside James is Oscar nominee Don Cheadle as Al-G Rhythm, the evil computer algorithm threatening to trap James and his son and delete the Looney Tunes. Malcom D. Lee directed the film with a screenplay by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Keenan Coogler, Terence Nance, Jesse Gordon and Celeste Ballard.
Space Jam: A New Legacy hits theaters on July 16. It will release simultaneously through HBO Max.
