The Hollywood Reporter has shared a first look at Justice League: Warworld, while also revealing both the synopsis and cast for the upcoming DC/Warner Bros. Animation movie.
The Boys and Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will lead the cast as Batman/Officer Wayne, with Darren Criss as Superman/Agent Kent and Stana Katic as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. What's the deal with those bizarre designations?
Well, at the end of Legion of Super-Heroes, the Dark Knight and Man of Steel were shown inspecting a crater in Metropolis when they were suddenly hit and seemingly annihilated by an alien energy blast. Now, though, we know what happened next to the World's Finest superheroes.
"Until now, the Justice League has been a loose association of superpowered individuals," reads the synopsis. "But when they are swept away to Warworld, a place of unending brutal gladiatorial combat, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the others must somehow unite to form an unbeatable resistance able to lead an entire planet to freedom.”
It's a cool premise and one we're excited to see play out when the movie is released on Digital and Home Entertainment platforms this summer (we don't have a confirmed release date just yet).
As for the rest of the ensemble, that's made up of Ike Amadi as Martian Manhunter/J’onn J’onzz, Troy Baker as Jonah Hex, Matt Bomer as Old Man, Roger C. Cross as Machiste, Brett Dalton as Bat Lash, Trevor Duvall as Drifter, John DiMaggio as Lobo, Robin Atkin Downes as Mongul, Frank Grillo as Agent Faraday, Rachel Kimsey as Mariah Romanova and David Lodge as Sheriff, and Damian O’Hare as Deimos and Teddy Sears as Warlord.
The movie will be executive produced by Butch Lukic (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Sam Register, with longtime Batman franchise executive producer Michael Uslan also involved. DC vets Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau produce.
Jeff Wamester (Legion of Super-Heroes) directs Justice League: Warworld from a script by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural), Ernie Albacker (Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War) & Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power).
