Back in 2017,
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle proved to be an unexpected success. The comedy opened to $35 million at the box office and almost managed to earn $1 billion by the end of its theatrical run. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars alongside Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Awkwafina, and Nick Jonas.
Sony Pictures is hoping that
Jumanji: The Next Level will see similar success — and it looks like it's right on track to be another big winner for the studio. Having earned $19.4 million during its first day in theatres, experts predicted a $50 million opening weekend for
Jumanji: The Next Level (via
Gamefragger).
However, the sequel has managed to far exceed that prediction and actually earn $60.1 million during its opening weekend in theatres. That's right, almost twice as much as its predecessor made during its opening. While
Jumanji: The Next Level is riding high in the charts right now,
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will soon release and likely steal the top spot.
In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
Jumanji: The Next Level is now showing in theatres!
