The Grinch is one of Dr. Seuss' finest characters and has been adapted to various media over the decades. Besides the movie adaptation released in 2000 starring Jim Carrey, Chuck Jones' 1966 short, How The Grinch Stole Christmas is often sighted as the best portrayal of the character so far.  Illumination Entertainment, best known for the Despicable Me and Minions films, has provided a peek into what their interpretation of the character will be.

Voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, the trailer reveals the Grinch and his dog Max living an isolated existence from the people of Who-ville. With Christmas about to start, the Grinch and Max set out to disrupt the festivities.

The film is directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney.

For their eighth fully animated feature, Illumination and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic. The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism.

The Grinch will be released on November 9th 2018.
