I, TONYA Director Craig Gillespie In Talks To Helm Disney's Live-Action CRUELLA Film
We've known for a while that Disney was developing a live-action Cruella film, and now a new report reveals the studio is eyeing director Craig Gillespie to helm the undated project. More past the jump.
Like her fellow Disney villain Maleficent, Cruella de Vil is set to receive her own live-action film, but while we heard a few years ago that Emma Stone (The Favourite) would portray the fur-obsessed villain, we didn't know who would direct the origin story.
Fortunately, a new report from Deadline has just revealed that The Finest Hours director Craig Gillespie is currently in negotiations with Disney to take the helm of the studio's latest project.
Gillespie recently gained a ton of recognition for directing the Margot Robbie-led film I, Tonya, receiving widespread acclaim from critics and earning a number of impressive accolades.
Disney hasn't set a release date for Cruella, but it will be the famous baddie's fourth foray into the live-action world, as Academy Award-nominee Glenn Close, Victoria Smurfit, and Wendy Raquel Robinson have all portrayed the character on either film or television.
