The upcoming
How To Train Your Dragon sequel, titled "
The Hidden World", will bring an end to the animated franchise - both on the big-screen and the small.
Based on iconic children's books by Cressida Cowell, the
How to Train Your Dragon franchise has been a resounding success, both financially and critically, and even sprouted into its own Netflix series. Despite this,
The Hidden World will be the complete and utter finale - marking both the end of the animated film trilogy as well as the Netflix series.
Despite both previous films amounting to more than $1B at the Box Office, writer/director Dean DeBlois recently sat down with
Entertainment Weekly to discuss the upcoming end of the dragons.
“We thought about it for a long time and came up with what we think is a bittersweet way to say goodbye to these characters, but the right way."
The director went on to elaborate on what we learned from the film's emotional trailer,
“You will understand why Hiccup says, as you heard in the trailer, ‘There were dragons when I was a boy.’ And by the end of this film, you’ll have answered the question [of] what could have happened to them."
On top of this, the writer/director brought with him a new image from the sequel. There isn't much to ascertain from the image though it's still heartwarming to see Toothless warming up to his new friend. Check it out below:
What do you think of Deblois' comments? Are you a fan of the animated franchise? What do you think about the fact that it's being brought to an end?
