Sony Pictures Entertainment has finally shared the official trailer for the long-awaited fourth and final installment in the popular Hotel Transylvania franchise. The trailer for Hotel Transylvania: Transformania confirms the rumored plot synopsis in which Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and Johnny becomes a monster. It's your typical body-swap plot, but with the franchise's signature monster humor.
Looking to fit in with the family and finally gain Drac's approval, Johnny seeks the help of Van Helsing to transform himself into a monster. But when the mysterious 'Monsterfication Ray' goes haywire, the entire hotel of monsters find themselves in mismatched bodies. Now stripped of his powers in human form, Drac must team up with Johnny, who is now loving life as a monster, to race across the globe and find a cure before it's too late.
Although Genndy Tartakovsky wrote the story and screenplay for Hotel Transylvania: Transformia, it is the first film in the franchise in which he is not directing. Instead, it is helmed by Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon.
After various shifts in release dates due to COVID-19, Hotel Transylvania: Transformia is now slated to release in theaters on July 23.
It's billed as the final installment in the animated comedy franchise, which has been a huge hit for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation released in 2018 and grossed $580 million worldwide on just an $80 million budget. It was the highest-grossing film in the Hotel Transylvania franchise and Sony Pictures Animation's highest-grossing fully animated movie worldwide.
