Yesterday evening, Frozen star Josh Gad took to Instagram to give his seal of approval to a fan-made poster for Disney's planned live-action The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie.
The actor is still believed to be attached to the project, though many of his followers assumed the poster he shared was an official cast reveal and confirmation the live-action adaptation is coming sooner than we thought. However, Gad has since changed the caption of his post to clear things up.
"Wow. This spread quickly," he said. "Okay, for the record, this is not real. This is a [Fan-Cast]! I was just responding to it. Love that you guys all want this. We do [too]!"
"The script is one of the best I have read and hopefully the powers that be will see this love and let us make the live-action adaptation the original animated film deserves. But for now, again, this is just a fan cast!"
While Gad may have initially set out to reign in expectations after giving the thumbs up to a fan-made piece of imagery, he's actually confirmed here that the script is finished. This is a good sign for a movie which has been in the works since 2019 when we first learned that David Henry Hwang had been tapped to pen the screenplay.
It's previously been reported that The Hunchback of Notre Dame was supposed to begin production last month under the working title "Macaron." That obviously didn't happen, and it seems movies like Hercules and Lilo & Stitch are currently a bigger priority for Disney (Aladdin 2 also appears to have fallen by the wayside).
Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are still thought to be writing the music for this adaptation, with Gad producing and likely to play Quasimodo.
Check out Gad's post below and keep checking back here for updates on The Hunchback of Notre Dame as we have them.
