Everyone knew that
Frozen 2 would be a hit after the massive success that the first film achieved - but no one could tell just how high the movie would soar.
After setting a global debut record for an animated film with a beefy $358.4 million opening weekend, it continued to hold the top spot domestically for the first three weekends. It then set a record domestically for an animated opening outside of Summer with $130.2 million and $125 million for the second weekend - which was during the Thanksgiving period.
A song from the film titled
Into the Unknown which was written by Kristin Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and performed by Idina Menzel in the film was also nominated for a Golden Globe award.
Check out the featurette below which celebrates the success of
Frozen 2 and its team!
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await Elsa as she ventures into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle? The answers are calling her but also threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she'll face a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough.
Frozen 2 is now playing in theaters.
