We recently learned that Sony Pictures is developing both a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel and a spinoff which will revolve around Spider-Woman. The studio is clearly confident in the chances of the movie's success when it swings into theaters this weekend and it's easy enough to imagine the first instalment spawning an entire, well, Spider-Verse!
Now, producer Amy Pascal has revealed the first details about the planned follow-up.
With Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) at the helm and a script by David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984), it's said that the sequel will focus on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy...and the budding romance between the two young heroes from different worlds.
This is obviously a plot thread which has been explored in the comic books and is reportedly something Phil Lord had in the original script before it was ultimately removed because there wasn't room for it (there are, however, some hints).
What will be interesting is seeing whether Sony decides to keep the spotlight solely on these two heroes or if the plan is to once again introduce some other spider-themed heroes from throughout the Multiverse. Either way, it will be great to see more of Miles and Spider-Woman when this sequel is released (no release date has been revealed as of yet).
