Dolittle is an upcoming comedy film that's directed by Stephen Gaghan and stars Robert Downey Jr. — among others. Though the film is written by both Gaghan and Thomas Shepard; it's based on the character and books created by Hugh Lofting. Doctor Dolittle has previously been adapted into a series of live-action movies as well as animated series.
The titular character has the uncanny ability to talk to animals. Downey Jr. will portray this incarnation of the character and be joined by a star-studded cast who will voice a plethora of animated animals — from lions to tigers and bears.
Beyond Downey Jr., the cast is as follows: Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent and Harry Collett in live action roles; the voice cast includes John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Tom Holland, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, Craig Robinson, Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson and Frances de la Tour.
