According to a new report by
The Hollywood Reporter, Disney's live-action remake of
Aladdin has now made more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
It's the fourth film of this year to reach accomplish this monumental feat. Interestingly, those four movies all come from the Walt Disney Company — the others being
Captain Marvel,
Avengers: Endgame, and
Spider-Man: Far From Home. Of all-time, it's the forty-first movie to pass $1 billion.
Aladdin reaching $1 billion is a first for director Guy Ritchie and surprisingly also a first for Will Smith —as neither of their previous works have joined the billion-dollar-club. The live-action remake made $91 million at the domestic box office when it opened and went on to make $342.5 million in North America alone.
It's believed that the recently released
The Lion King film will follow its live-action remake brethren and similarly earn more than $1 billion at the box office.
