Disney's Live-Action ALADDIN Movie Will Feature New Songs From LA LA LAND Songwriters & Alan Menken
The past few days have been focused on Disney's live-action Mulan film, but now we have some new details on the Guy Ritchie-directed Aladdin film and the new songs that will be featured in the upcoming movie.
With film's like Jon Favreau's Jungle Book and Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella, Disney has already brought a number of their popular animated movies into the live-action world, and soon that list will include Guy Ritchie's Aladdin.
Of course, like these previous films, Aladdin won't recreate the famous animated picture frame by frame. Instead, we can expect the story to be altered as it transitions into live-action.
However, plot points aren't the only thing that will be different in Ritchie's project, as we've now learned the movie will feature a number of new songs. According to Variety, these new musical numbers will be the product of a collaboration between La La Land songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and Alan Meken, who worked on the original animated film.
While they couldn't go too deep into detail, the songwriters did shed some light on their work, revealing some of the characters receiving new material.
"We got to write a new song for Jasmine,” Justin Paul noted. But Naomi Scott's character isn't the only one to get a new musical number, as Paul also revealed that there's "a sweet song" for Aladdin (Mena Massoud) as well.
Disney's Aladdin is currently set to fly into theaters on May 24, 2019, and along with the two previously mentioned leads, it will star Will Smith as the Genie and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.
