Disney have a plethora of live-action remakes planned, and it's time to add another to the list. According to a new report from Deadline, award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang is currently writing a live-action movie based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Disney.
Reports claim that the film will simply be named: Hunchback. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are to work on the music and Josh Gad is attached to produce. Gad may also be up for the starring role of the titular hunchback but nothing official has been said on that just yet.
Menken is known for being the mind behind many iconic, animated Disney musicals - his name is attached to the likes of Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and more. Schwartz has won multiple Academy Awards for his scoring - and worked on the original, animated incarnation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
This is just one of many in-development live-action remakes Disney has coming down the pipeline. Aladdin and Dumbo will be releasing later this year, and there are many more to come - not to mention some exclusive to Disney+ like Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone.
What are your thoughts on the in-development, live-action remake of The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
