It's been a couple of years since we first heard that Disney was officially moving forward with a Hercules live-action remake, but it looks like the Mouse House may finally be gearing up to begin production.
Though they caution that this is very much just a rumor for now, The Disinsider (a trusted source for Disney scoops) believes that Danny DeVito is set to reprise his role as Philoctetes from the original animated classic.
Disney usually recasts the characters for these live-action adaptations, but James Earl Jones did voice Mufasa in The Lion King. Also, DeVito has previously expressed interest in returning as Phil.
As for the other main parts, rumors have pointed to Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Black Bird) for Herc and singer Ariana Grande for Meg, but we've had no solid updates.
Aladdin director Guy Ritchie is set to helm Hercules, with Avengers: Endgame duo Joe and Anthony Russo on board as producers.
Details are still pretty sparse, but Joe did recently confirm that the remake will put a more modern spin on the story.
“It will certainly pay homage to the original with a more modern spin on it. What Anthony and I love about the original is how funny and subversive it is. I think we try to embrace that sense of humor in the remake.“
