Disney are at work on a live-action prequel to
101 Dalmatians which will focus on the antagonist of the animated classic. Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone (
La La Land) will play the titular villainess in
Cruella.
The cast also includes Emma Thompson (
Sense and Sensibility), Mark Strong (
Shazam!), Paul Walter Hauser (
I, Tonya), Joel Fry (
Yesterday), Emily Beecham (
Into the Badlands), and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (
Killing Eve).
Craig Gillespie (
I, Tonya) will direct and Thompson will executive produce. Andrew Gunn, Kristin Burr, Marc E. Platt are all listed as producers. Jez Butterworth, Aline Brosh McKenna, Dana Fox, Kelly Marcel, Steve Zissis, and Tony McNamara are responsible for the screenplay.
Recently, Dail Mail Celebrity (
@DailyMailCeleb) were able to take a couple of shots of the set of Cruella where Stone is garbed up as the titular character. Unlike the official image which was released earlier this year, Cruella seems to be sporting a more modern look.
Cruella is set to arrive in theatres on May 28th, 2021.
